If you are interested in aligner treatment, ask Dr. Tingey, during the examination appointment if aligners would work for your bite.

How do clear aligners work?

This type of orthodontic treatment involves using a series of plastic retainers to move the teeth. Each aligner is made from thin clear plastic, thermoformed to custom models. The models are computer generated, simulating the movement of your teeth. Each model reflects a small increment of improvement in alignment. The aligner fits snugly at first, but settles in as the teeth move into position fitting the aligner.

Aligners need to be worn for at least 20 hours each day. They can be removed to eat and to brush your teeth. Also you can take them out for special occasions.

The aligner is effective for about 2 weeks, then a new aligner is started. The length of your treatment depends on the severity of your case, and treatment can take anywhere between six months to two years.

Advantages of orthodontic treatment with clear aligners:

Clear aligners are a great alternative for patients who want a straighter smile but do not want to wear metal braces, or for patients who have had treatment in the past and want to make minor corrections to their smile.

There are several advantages to orthodontic treatment with clear aligners, which include:

  • Clear aligners are less visible than conventional braces. There are no metal parts, which means your treatment can be incognito.
  • Clear aligners can be removed for special occasions. They are not cemented to the teeth, so they can be put in your pocket for short periods.
  • Clear aligners are removable, so it’s easier for you to brush and floss after meals.

If you’re interested in orthodontic treatment in Boise or Meridian with clear aligners, schedule an appointment and talk to Dr. Tingey about whether this is the right treatment option for you.
